I also plan, write and manage content for healthcare apps and websites. But this website is mainly about my freelance games journalism.
I started contributing to Retro Gamer in 2022 with an interview-based feature about the pioneering Amiga game Hunter. I then became a regular freelancer for the magazine, penning a ten-page cover feature about Shadow Of The Beast and deep dives on a wide range of classic games such as Grim Fandango, Earthbound, Ico, Dungeon Keeper, Atari Golf and Sensible Soccer. My interviewees have included legends of the industry and game-makers from Nintendo, Sega, LucasArts, Psygnosis, Cyan and Bullfrog among others.
I’ve also written
I have an NCTJ Certificate in journalism and a degree in philosophy. The latter involved writing thoughtful, analytical essays which I like to think geared me up somewhat for long-form game journalism.
I currently pursue game journalism as a side quest, but I’m keen to keep expanding my portfolio. Please feel free to check out some writing samples through the links above and contact me if you need a dependable freelancer.
Much of my career has been spent writing and editing content for healthcare organisations, to help make their websites, apps and publications clearer for people who need them. I’m currently a Content Designer for the NHS App. I was previously Head Of Health Content for Bupa and a Senior Editor at Macmillan Cancer Support. My past miscellany of writing includes gig reviews for The Argus newspaper in Brighton and a travel feature for Wanderlust magazine.
When not geeking out over games, I play the guitar and occasionally write some ropey songs. My favourite game of all time is probably Monkey Island 2 and my spirit animals are Guybrush Threepwood and Glottis from Grim Fandango. I live with my wife and daughter in Surrey.
